The Legislature may not be in session, but the TWHC is hard at work this interim. Our members are actively meeting with community members, researching policy ideas, and planning for the next legislative session. If you have a policy idea or issue you want to discuss with the Caucus, please e-mail us at kristen@txwomenshealth.com. You can also follow our social media pages for more regular updates and information!
Today, Chair @teamhowardtx presented Governor @michellelujangrisham with a Texas flag to thank the state of New Mexico for protecting reproductive rights and providing Texans access to safe abortions. Thank you to @pptxvotes and @avowtexas for hosting this event!

Today, we honor the women who have died as a result of Texas’ abortion ban. Porsha, Nevaeh, and Yeniifer should be alive today and we should know the names of all Texans who have died because of the abortion ban. We will continue to push for transparency related to the impact the abortion ban has had in Texas and will fight to ensure every Texan has access to abortion healthcare services when they need it.
Mood changes before your period are common, but are you struggling with severe emotional and physical symptoms that interrupt your daily life? We're wrapping up Mental Health Awareness Month to remind everyone that some symptoms are not something you have to “just deal with.”
PMS and PMDD can significantly impact mental health, and no one should feel dismissed or alone while experiencing them.
Swipe to learn more about the differences between PMS and PMDD and where to find help ♥️
For National Women’s Health Week, the Office on Women’s Health is highlighting four key focus areas shaping the future of women’s health: prevention and early detection, sex-specific biology and hormonal health, chronic disease and aging, and innovation in healthcare and research.
Prioritizing women’s health at every stage of life helps build healthier communities for all.

Chair @teamhowardtx joined the @pinkgranitefoundation Party with a Purpose in honor of World Ovarian Day. In 2025, ovarian cancer was 5th leading cause of cancer death in TX. We will continue to work to increase access to women’s health services, including cancer screening and treatment.
Once again, anti-abortion judges have recklessly restricted access to essential women’s health services. The attacks on our autonomy and freedom must end. Our lives are at stake. TWHC Chair Donna Howard and HDC chair Gene Wu statement issued the statements above.
Today is Denim Day !👖
In 1992, the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction, claiming that because the victim wore tight jeans, she must have helped remove them and therefore consented. Enraged by this, the women of the Italian Parliament wore jeans in protest to challenge harmful myths about sexual violence. In honor of this gesture, Peace Over Violence launched Denim Day in 1999. Today, we wear denim to advocate for change and stand in solidarity with survivors. #DenimDay #SAAM
Thank you to @ascensionseton for giving Chair @teamhowardtx and Caucus member staff a tour of the new Women’s Health Tower at the Seton Medical Center in Central Austin. This new tower will ensure Texans, regardless of income, have access to the best level of care in Austin. We are excited to celebrate the grand opening and see the completed hospital in the coming months!
As Black Maternal Health Week comes to a close, we are reminded that this work is about more than addressing healthcare systems. It’s about thriving.
This week and beyond, we honor Black motherhood and the people working every day to ensure Black moms are supported, heard, and cared for.

HB 3073 "The Summer Willis Act" is named after Summer Willis, a Texan whose experience reflected a gap in the law many survivors have faced. In Texas, 2 in 5 women and 1 in 5 men experience sexual assault, but fewer than 3% of perpetrators ever see prison. For too long, the law failed to define consent. This changes now.
Reversing Roe was not a sudden move. For over a decade, the #txlege passed bills to whittle away at our right to abortion until they were finally able to reverse it. From requiring sonograms before abortions to the "heartbeat" bill, the Legislature ruthlessly attacked access to standard reproductive care.
Now, we must navigate a post-Dobbs Texas.
For more on the bills referenced, visit www.txwomenshealth.com for the full timeline.
Nearly half of Texas counties are maternity care deserts, leaving many women without nearby prenatal or delivery care. When care is out of reach, the risks increase for mothers, babies, and entire communities.
Access to maternal healthcare should not depend on where you live.

Doulas and midwives have provided necessary maternal healthcare support for centuries. Today, we want to take a moment to remember the role they have played throughout history and uplift organizations advocating for policy changes that will ensure more women have access to doulas and midwives.
The research is clear - families who have support from a doula or midwife have better maternal and child health outcomes.
Together, they provide moms with guidance, support, protection, and advocacy.

From forced experimentation and segregated hospitals to unconscious bias and unequal pain management, Black women have faced a healthcare system that undervalues their lives for too long.
This Black History Month, we want to recognize the historical failings that have led to the disparities Black women currently endure in health care and uplift the organizations focused on creating a safer, healthier future for Black moms and their families.
This Valentine’s Day, don’t forget to give yourself a little love, too. Texas continues to rank among the states with the highest number of newly reported STIs. HPV, the most common STI, is linked to nearly all cervical cancer cases. The good news? HPV is highly preventable with vaccination and routine screening.
Protect your health. Schedule your screening today! 💕
